Just like the show, "America's Got Talent", Michigan's Got Innovation, and we need to find it and put it to good use.

Actually, this talent series (America's Got Talent) started in Great Britain, a show called Britain's Got Talent (BGT).  And this guy, Paul Potts just shows up at the BGT audtion, hosted by Simon Cowell from American Idol. No one has heard of Potts, and he says he is going to sing opera. The judges look at each other in disgust, with "Oh no, this is going to be horrific!", written across their foreheads. So the music starts, then Potts starts to sing "Nessun Dorma" with this amazing voice. As we was singing, one of the judges starts crying, people in the audience are crying, people are standing, clapping and cheering, and Simon's jaw drops, and everyone is astonished. At the end of the audition, the audience is standing and cheering, and everyone has "goosepimples".

Just like Paul Potts in the talent show, I am sure we have some innovator in Michigan, hiding behind the scenes, who has something incredible to offer, but they just have not realized it yet. This is what we need, "a case of a lump of coal that will turn into a diamond". So here is your chance, to bring to the table, your innovative ideas.

So, Michigan's Got Innovation, we just have to find and make use of it.

While the article starts off a little analogy involving “Britain‘s Got Talent”, a TV show that showcases the individual talents of British citizens. It brings up an event where a member blows away the judges with his opera singing abilities. Almost a sleeper talent, he looked like he didn’t have much and then shows the judges that his talent is immense. The author then correlates this story to Michigan. They make that point that Michigan may have sleeping innovation that is just waiting to get tapped. That there may be programs that can be offered to entice the men and women of Michigan to step up and start showing their entrepreneurial spirit and help get Michigan back on their feet. It’s a novel idea, how many people are out of work in Michigan? Of those people might be sleeping talent. They could be the next Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, just waiting for startup money or someone to help tap into their creative process. It is apparent that Michigan is in need of new businesses, at least new ideas to bring in businesses. We have the infrastructure. How many plants have been closed down in Pontiac, Grand River, Belleville, Flint, etc? The cost of living is cheap here as well making it perfect conditions for businesses to start and grow, or to draw existing ideas into the area. So what is needed now is that spark. The creative spark to get citizens to shift into gear and to start thinking of businesses or ideas that can be put to use to get Michigan running again. The government could offer incentive programs, a contest possibly, for contestants to enter their idea for a business. Citizens could vote on the best idea and if it’s feasible it could be implemented. Who knows, we may have a billion dollar idea among our talent pool.
